My favorites from 2013

I thought it would be fun to put together a list of my 13 favorite photos from 2013, and I had no idea how easy it would be to select those 13 images. They came to me in rapid succession, and I truly had a blast putting this post together. Keep in mind that I don’t consider these my BEST images, but the ones that I return to again and again. These are the images that make me smile every time I see them.

I hope you had the best year ever, and I appreciate each of you that stop and take the time to look at my images throughout the year. May 2014 find you in high sprits and great health! God bless!

My first favorite comes from June, and Brant and Mary Beth’s wedding in the Ft. Worth stock yards. I had just photographed them seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day. I staged the “first look” just outside their hotel, and next to the old stock yards building. When I was done, I told them that I would go away for a few minutes so they could be alone. When I walked into the hotel, I turned back and this image is what I saw through the window of the hotel lobby. I love it, and I think the world of these young people.

My next favorite comes from April, and Brian and Desiree’s wedding in East Texas. Their wedding ceremony had just ended, and the wedding party was gathering in a cottage near the chapel. Desiree spotted the flower girl and ring bearer, and she scooped them up in such a warm hug. It happened so fast that I almost missed this shot. I’m so glad I didn’t. Like I said, this is one of those special moments that really makes me happy.

My next favorite is a portrait of my sister and her family. We did a session with her kids back in November, but we didn’t get a shot of the whole family together. I suggested that we take just one shot of everybody. They quickly posed and this is the resulting images. I love it! One of my favorite images ever!

Ali and Nilo’s wedding in August of 2013 was so beautiful. With the ceremony and reception held at the elegant Ritz Carlton in downtown Dallas, every shot looked like something from a bridal magazine. After their ceremony, I took Ali and Nilo aside for a few portraits before they went upstairs to freshen up for the reception. I found a beautiful corridor with huge windows, and I simply stood them in the natural light and let them relax together for a few moments. I love this shot. I think it really captures the peace and joy that always radiates from this couple.

Matt and Justine had just seen each other for the first time on their wedding day in October, and I had excused myself so that they could have a moment alone together. Matt seemed almost overwhelmed at how beautiful Justine looked, and they lingered for several minutes in the garden near the ceremony site. I shot this image through a rose bush as they began walking together. I thought the soft, pink flowers would add a magical touch to the scene, and I love the results.

This is obviously a photo a beautiful family, and this session was very special to me, but I’m not going to go into a lot of details. It’s truly one of my favorites of 2013, and I was so honored to be there and capture this image.

Collin is a special little boy that I met several years ago, and I simply think the world of he and his mom, Mallory. Carla and I had the opportunity to watch Collin play baseball in the Buddy League early in the Fall, and it was such a wonderful experience.

We picked the perfect Fall day to shoot portraits with the Freeman family. I love every image from their session, but this one always makes me smile. Happy New Year to the Freeman’s!

We photographed Juan and Sylvia’s wedding in April. These kids are so much fun. During the reception, they performed what appeared to be a rehearsed dance routine for their guests, and everybody went crazy. This photo is so full of joy, and every time I see it, it reminds me of how wonderful this couple is. I’m so glad they allowed me to be there.

We photographed Matt and Jenna’s wedding in November at Ashton Garden’s in Corinth, and I was really overwhelmed by the love that filled the room during the ceremony. It’s a hard thing to describe, but I think this imperfect photo goes a long way towards showing  what I mean. Coming down the aisle after their wedding vows, Jenna was just bursting with joy. I almost cry every time I see this one. It’s probably my favorite image of 2013.

I’ve had the great privilege to photograph Sarah and her husband Jared many times, but this summer maternity session with them in a golden field was so peaceful and beautiful. This image of Sarah in the grass takes my breath away.

Back in March, I was able to spend  a magical morning with the Sessions family and their new baby, Laurel. The photos are soft and full of light, and I’m so proud of the whole set. This image in particular makes my heart sing. I love this family, and I hope I can photograph them for years to come.

My final favorite of 2013 is from Brandon and Monique’s wedding in October. The night before, during the rehearsal, a tear rolled down Brandon’s cheek when Monique started down the aisle with her father. I was so touched at how moved he was at the sight of his soon-to-be wife. The next day, when he saw her for the first time, coming down the aisle with her dad, another tear rolled down his face, and this image is so powerful to me. I loved being a part of this special day. And I love this image.
