A week or so back, I promised an announcement on the future of family photography as it relates to my company. Some of you noticed that the announcement never came. I apologize for that. I promise that I wasn’t trying to create some false alarm.
The truth is, I was planning to announce that we would no longer offer family photography services.
If you follow us closely, you know that the majority of our work involves weddings and senior portraits. We have been so fortunate in these areas, and we truly love the work we’ve done with our brides, grooms and seniors.
As our business has grown, it has become more and more difficult to be all things to all people. I’m not complaining. The workload we have is a true blessing. But there are only so many hours in the day, and at some point, you can only work so many 14-hour days.
My business mentors have been telling me that I need to narrow my focus and strive to be dominant in a niche of the local market. The workload and the voices of those teachers that I admire led me to my decision.
But I made that decision at the exactly wrong time. I was tired and my mind wasn’t clear. I didn’t consult my heart.
Over the last week, I’ve had time to imagine a business that didn’t involve family photography. And I don’t like that vision of my business. I’ve changed my mind. We are still going to offer family photography. I will find other ways to better manage my time.
Again, I’m truly sorry for the delay in making the promised announcement. We appreciate each of you so much, and I look forward to many more years serving our wonderful clients.
